Welcome to the world of FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCE!

FOODS 1 examines the nutritional needs of the individual.  Emphasis is placed on the relationship of diet to health, kitchen and meal management, basic food preparation and sustainability for a global society, and time and resource management.  Skills in science, reading, mathematics, and literacy are reinforced in this course.  Foods 1 is the pre-requisite to Foods 2 (the cooking class).
FOODS 2 ENTERPRISE is the completer course for Foods 1.
This course consists of three components:
1- ServSafe - Students will receive the nation's leading food safety training and certification program, with the opportunity to become ServSafe Certified.
2- Entrepreneurship - Students will apply the principles of marketing and small business operations to establish a  real or simulated in-school food business plan.
3- Specialty Food Preparation Skills - Students will master the art of baking, knife skills, and garnishing.  This part of the curriculum builds on what was learned in Foods 1.
FOODS 2 HONORS ENTERPRISE - will be offered beginning the 2016-2017 school year!
This HONORS course extends the NC CTE Essential Standards to a higher, more challenging level.  Students extend the Entrepreneurship objective by creating a business plan for their school-based enterprise.  They also choose two skill-based honors projects to complete in addition to the activities in the Standard course of study.
